As training camps prepare to open, the 2026 landscape features strong continuity in several places and meaningful roster upgrades in others. Here are my reasoned projections for who will claim each division title.
AFC East: Buffalo Bills
Josh Allen remains the clearest difference-maker in the division. Buffalo added meaningful weapons in the offseason and enters the year with the kind of roster balance that has kept them competitive for years. The Patriots produced one of the more impressive single-season turnarounds in recent memory last year, but sustaining that level of success against a tougher schedule and across a full campaign is difficult. The Dolphins and Jets face steeper rebuilding paths. The Bills have the quarterback, the supporting pieces, and the track record to edge out the field once again.
AFC North: Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson is healthy and surrounded by a supporting cast that includes a proven running game. The addition of a high-impact pass rusher gives the defense a clearer identity under new head coach Jesse Minter. Baltimore also drew one of the more favorable schedules in the conference. Cincinnati remains dangerous when Joe Burrow is upright, and Pittsburgh showed resilience last season, yet the Ravens project as the most complete roster in a division that rewards physical, consistent football.
AFC South: Houston Texans
C.J. Stroud continues to develop into a franchise quarterback, and the Texans’ defensive core remains one of the division’s strongest assets. Offseason additions to the offensive line and running back room should provide better balance around Stroud. Jacksonville posted the best record in the division last year and returns a talented roster, but Houston’s blend of young talent, defensive depth, and organizational stability gives them a slight edge in what figures to be another tight race.
AFC West: Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid have shown time and again that they find ways to win even when the supporting cast or injury luck is imperfect. Kansas City added speed and depth on both sides of the ball this offseason and should benefit from positive regression after a down 2025. Denver and the Los Angeles Chargers built strong rosters and will push hard, but the Chiefs’ proven ability to navigate the regular season and peak in January keeps them as the division’s most reliable choice.
NFC East: Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles still possess one of the league’s best offensive lines and a collection of skilled playmakers even after significant roster turnover. Jalen Hurts brings leadership and dual-threat ability that fits the system. Dallas, Washington, and the Giants all have pieces that can make noise, yet none match Philadelphia’s combination of line play, coaching continuity, and overall roster depth. The Eagles are built to control games and should repeat as division champions.
NFC North: Detroit Lions
Detroit enters the year with a favorable schedule and an offensive line that received meaningful reinforcements. Jared Goff has shown he can lead a winning team when protected, and the defense returns much of its core after dealing with injuries last season. Chicago built momentum in 2025, Green Bay remains competitive, and Minnesota has upside, but the Lions appear best positioned to handle the grind of a division that demands physicality week after week.
NFC South: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
This division remains wide open, with every team carrying legitimate questions and areas of strength. Tampa Bay returns a quarterback in Baker Mayfield who has proven he can win in this system, along with enough experienced pieces on both sides of the ball to compete consistently. New Orleans, Atlanta, and Carolina all improved in meaningful ways this offseason, yet the Buccaneers’ blend of veteran leadership and defensive capability gives them the clearest path to finishing atop the standings.
NFC West: Seattle Seahawks
The defending Super Bowl champions return with substantial continuity on both sides of the ball under Mike Macdonald. Seattle’s defense remains elite, and the offense has enough weapons and protection to keep opposing defenses honest. The Los Angeles Rams made splashy additions and the San Francisco 49ers retain talent, but the Seahawks’ balance, coaching stability, and recent championship experience position them to repeat as division winners in a group that will feature three strong contenders.These projections reflect the current roster constructions, coaching situations, and schedule strengths as training camps approach. Football is unpredictable, and injuries or unexpected breakouts can shift the picture quickly. Still, the teams listed above enter the summer with the clearest combination of talent, recent production, and structural advantages in their respective divisions. The 2026 season should once again deliver compelling races from start to finish.
