The names from Carolina’s 2025-26 Stanley Cup championship team were engraved on the Cup this week, locking this group into the trophy forever after the Hurricanes beat the Vegas Golden Knights in six games to win the second championship in franchise history.
Rod Brind’Amour’s name is back on the Cup with Carolina for the second time — once as the captain of the 2006 team, and now as the head coach of the 2026 champions. Jordan Staal also gets his second engraving, 17 years after winning it all with the Penguins in 2009. William Carrier is the only other Hurricanes player on this roster who had already won the Cup before, after winning with Vegas in 2023.
For the rest of the roster, this is the first time their names will live on Lord Stanley.
Carolina finished the postseason 16-3, sweeping Ottawa in the first round, sweeping Philadelphia in the second, beating Montreal in five games in the Eastern Conference Final, then closing out Vegas with a 3-0 win in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final.
Jordan Staal won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, while Brandon Bussi finished the final game with a 22-save shutout to seal it.
In total, 53 names were engraved under the Hurricanes’ 2025-26 championship team, including 24 players. Captain Jordan Staal led the player section, followed by names like Sebastian Aho, Frederik Andersen, Seth Jarvis, Taylor Hall, Andrei Svechnikov, Jaccob Slavin, Logan Stankoven and others.
There’s also been plenty of chatter because owner Tom Dundon’s wife and five children were engraved on the Cup as well, even though they don’t have official roles with the team. So yes, even the engraving came with a little drama. Hockey stays undefeated.
Either way, the Hurricanes are champs again.
Twenty years after their first Cup, Carolina finally got back to the top — and now this group’s names are on the most famous trophy in sports forever.
